PATH was founded in 1977 as PIACT, or the Program for the Introduction and Adaptation of Contraceptive Technology. We have been known as PATH since 1981.

Our work is funded by foundations, governments, multilateral agencies, corporations, and individual investors. Project-specific foundation and government grants currently make up the greatest part of our operating budget. However, social enterprise investment by individuals and families is essential to developing new solutions.
