Import Root Certificate using MMC
To import Root Certificates through MMC (Windows Microsoft Management Console), you must go through same process. Instead of right-clicking on “Intermediate Certification Authorities,” right-click on the “Trusted Root Certification Authorities” and go to All Tasks > Import. The rest of the steps (steps 8 – 10) are the same for Root certificate.
Note: the MMC is only needed when the trusted root certificates were not included in console or were deleted or removed.
You can create a certificate bundle by opening a plain text editor (notepad, gedit, etc) and pasting in the text of the root certificate and the text of the intermediate certificate. The order they go in depends on the type of server you are running.
The Windows root store application makes it easier to differentiate between the certificates as it lists down them in different categories. You can find the root certificates in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities and the intermediate certificates under the Intermediate Certification Authorities.
Select Run from the Start menu, and then enter certmgr.msc. The Certificate Manager tool for the current user appears. To view your certificates, under Certificates - Current User in the left pane, expand the directory for the type of certificate you want to view.
To add: Copy your CA to dir /usr/local/share/ca-certificates/ Use command: sudo cp foo. crt /usr/local/share/ca-certificates/foo. crt. Update the CA store: sudo update-ca-certificates.
To remove: Remove your CA. Update the CA store: sudo update-ca-certificates --fresh.
In the left pane of the console, double-click Certificates (Local Computer). Right-click Personal, point to All Tasks, and then select Import. On the Welcome to the Certificate Import Wizard page, select Next. On the File to Import page, select Browse, locate your certificate file, and then select Next.
On the Root certificate authority page, above On this page menu on the right, select More actions (three dots) > Trigger export. On the Trigger CA export page, in the Select administrator to export CA dropdown, select the account administrator to whom you want to send the certificate. Select Submit.

Root CAs have multiple roots in trust stores of major browsers. However, the intermediate CAs, which are created from the root CAs, do not have roots in the trust stores. The intermediate roots instead link back to the trusted third-party root CAs.
