Over the last few years, Mid-State Orange have released two wonderful EPs “Summer In Disguise” and “Flag Festival”, but to say this debut album is long overdue would be an understatement.
... this was released in June, 2006 actually. It's called "Odds". It used to be available on Candle Records. Unfortunately that label went bankrupt in March 2007.

I know the way your mind works
You thought you'd come so far
But now you're here again
You're here again
I think I understand the things you say
Although you have no way with words
Do away with words
It's funny how the memories remain
Although you wish they'd go away
Let's go away
The time you gave me flowers
We were in the kitchen
I was drunk again, oh boy
Oh man, oh yeah
Don't be fooled by what you've learned
Don't be cooled cause you've been burned
Don't be fooled by what you've learned
Don't be cooled cause you've been burned
And now you're older and you're bolder
And I've grown colder as your shoulder
Has thawed to me
Just get me through this day
And I'll never ask you for another thing again
Not a thing again
Don't be fooled by what you've learned
Don't be cool cause you've been burned
Don't be fooled by what you've learned
Don't be cool cause you've been burned
The lyrics of "The Boy Who Dropped His Omlette" by Mid-State Orange delve into themes of understanding, memories, emotional growth, and resilience in the face of past hurts. The first verse captures a sense of familiarity and repetition as the singer reflects on someone's cyclical patterns of behavior and thought. Despite feeling like progress has been made, they find themselves back in a familiar place once again.
In the following lines, there is an acknowledgement of the challenges in communication and expressing oneself, suggesting a disconnect between what is said and what is truly felt. The suggestion to "do away with words" could indicate a desire for more genuine and honest interactions devoid of superficialities.
The mention of memories lingering despite a wish for them to fade hints at the lasting impact of past experiences. The juxtaposition of wanting to escape these memories with the idea of physically leaving ("Let's go away") conveys a yearning for emotional refuge or a fresh start.
The imagery of receiving flowers in the kitchen while intoxicated adds a layer of vulnerability and poignancy to the narrative. The shifts in emotions from jovial moments to reminiscences of pain reinforce the complexity of relationships and the ways in which they evolve over time. The repetition of the warning not to be misled by past lessons and hurts serves as a cautionary reminder to remain vigilant and self-aware despite the passage of time and personal growth.
I know the way your mind works
I am familiar with how you think and operate
You thought you'd come so far
You believed you had made significant progress
But now you're here again
But now you find yourself in this situation once more
You're here again
You have returned to this place
I think I understand the things you say
I believe I comprehend the messages you convey
Although you have no way with words
Even though you struggle to articulate your thoughts
Do away with words
Let's dispense with words altogether
It's funny how the memories remain
It's ironic how the recollections persist
Although you wish they'd go away
Even though you desire for them to disappear
Let's go away
Let's escape from them
The time you gave me flowers
The occasion when you presented me with flowers
We were in the kitchen
We were located in the kitchen
I was drunk again, oh boy
I was intoxicated once more
Oh man, oh yeah
Expressing surprise or admiration
Don't be fooled by what you've learned
Do not be deceived by your knowledge
Don't be cooled cause you've been burned
Do not become indifferent just because you have experienced failure
And now you're older and you're bolder
Now you are more mature and confident
And I've grown colder as your shoulder
While I have become more distant as you have turned away
Has thawed to me
Now you have warmed up to me
Just get me through this day
Simply help me get past today
And I'll never ask you for another thing again
And I will never make another request of you
Not a thing again
No more requests will be made
Don't be fooled by what you've learned
Do not be deceived by your knowledge
Don't be cool cause you've been burned
Do not act aloof just because you have faced setbacks
Don't be fooled by what you've learned
Do not be deceived by your knowledge
Don't be cool cause you've been burned
Do not act detached just because you have faced challenges
