Today, the Philippines is still considered a Third World Country. Most people say, problems such as corruption, unemployment, crimes, and poverty are the ones that hinder this country to be part of the developed countries. But what is the root cause of these kinds of problem? Who is responsible for this suffering nation? Obviously, the Filipino people. They chose to ignore that they are the problem. They blame it all on the government but they have not even done their part properly. They complain about everything even the simplest things. They could have been a First World Country but they are the ones that made it a Third World Country (Cruz, 2012). Filipino citizens are known to be hospitable, resilient, and creative. However, despite these …show more content… The benefits of a democratic state are as follows: (1) Human rights to every citizen including the state and its authorities, any social group (the religious institutions in particular), and other citizens. They have the right to protest, right to have freedom of speech, right to assemble, and the right to vote for representatives. (2) Equality amongst all members of the state in terms of economic, political, and social rights. (3) A stable administration is formed. Since the citizens have the right to elect their authorities, their government and its people can discuss properly the issues and other important matters so that their leaders could come up with sensible decisions. (4) Change could happen if the leaders and citizens would cooperate with one another without using violence as a tool (Advantages & Disadvantages of Democracy, 2014). On the other hand, democratic states also have costs. (1) There is a high risk of the state being ruled by negligent and useless leaders who will misuse the people’s money for their leisure. (2) Their leaders might abuse their power, disregard the concerns of the citizens, and make unreasonable decisions without the consent of its people. (Advantages & Disadvantages of Democracy, 2014) Although it sounds good to be a democratic state, its people having absolute freedom and power over its authorities, the Philippines is not destined yet to have a democratic political system.
