CHEP primarily generates its revenue from: An issue fee – the customer gets charged a one-off fee per pallet of around 68 cents (AUD) A daily hire fee for each day the customers uses the pallet – around $5 – $7 a month. This generates ~95% of total revenue.
Why is there a CHEP pallet shortage? ›
Current shortages have been caused by: A lack of timber resources to make new pallets (a recent court decision banned logging in key parts of Gippsland, which has had a 'knock on' effect for pallet suppliers) An imbalance global supply chain.

Pallet sizes will always play a major role in determining the sellback value of your used pallet supply, and the general rule here is that standard sizes like 48×40 and 48×45 will have higher sellback values as compared to custom sized pallets that are less useful for other businesses.
